Eastern Christian Welfare Australia (ECWA) saw the light in 2014 in response to an urgent need, the escalation of the Syrian and Iraqi refugee crisis. This ongoing crisis, which has disturbed the lives of millions of innocent people, has been described by the United Nations and the NGO’s as the largest humanitarian crisis since World War II.

In a bid to provide a unified support and raise awareness of the plight of these innocent refugees, especially the most vulnerable amongst them (children, women and elderly), the heads of eleven Middle Eastern Churches in Australia came together and established ECWA on 17/01/2014.
